A stock of fuel equivalent to the capacity of 15 bowsers has been seized by the Police Special Task Force amid long queues across the country for fuel.
Over 100,000 litres of fuel were stockpiled to sell at a higher price than the market price.
A total of 56,323 litres of diesel, 27,001 litres of petrol and 19,195 litres of kerosene are among the stocks that were seized.
Police Spokesperson Nihal Thalduwa said 884 suspects were arrested for hoarding and selling fuel at higher prices in 953 raids conducted island wide.
Sri Lanka is gradually growing black market for fuel due to the demand and shortage.
