Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will be removed from his Finance Ministerial portfolio, informed sources stated.
This is due to his failure to hold successful talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Accordingly, former Finance Minister Ali Sabry is expected to be reinstated in the portfolio.
Sabry led discussions with the IMF last April.
Appointed by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to resolve an economic crisis that has nearly emptied the country’s foreign exchange reserves, Wickremesinghe appeared to be underscoring the challenge his Government faces in turning things around as it seeks help from the IMF and confronts criticism over the lack of improvement since he took Office months ago.
