Sri Lanka President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has been exploring options to strengthen bilateral relations with Russia, and he is already in conversation with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.
Rajapaksa said that he had a “Very productive” telecon with Putin.
“While thanking him for all the support extended by his government to overcome the challenges of the past, I requested an offer of credit support to import fuel to Sri Lanka in defeating the current economic challenges,” he tweeted.

He further added that a request to restart Russian Airline, Aeroflot operations in Sri Lanka also been made.
“We unanimously agreed that strengthening bilateral relations in sectors such as tourism, trade and culture was paramount in reinforcing the friendship our two nations share,” Rajapaksa added.
