The Inspector General of Police has issued directives to conduct a prompt investigation into the assault on four Journalists yesterday (09).
Police Media Spokesperson Nihal Thalduwa said that disciplinary and legal action will be taken against the Officers responsible for this brutal and inhumane act.
The Police and Security Forces resorted to violence, injuring at least four Journalists covering the massive protests in the crisis-hit country.
The News 1st Journalists can be seen being beaten by the Police and Security Forces in videos shared on social media.
The Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s Office expressed regret over the assault on Journalists by the Security Personnel.
“Freedom of the media is paramount to Democracy in Sri Lanka. The Prime Minister requests both the protesters and the Security Forces to act with restraint to prevent any violence and ensure the safety of the public,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement.
