Former Minister Basil Rajapaksa, the founder of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, was set to leave for the United States this morning (12).
However, Emigration and Immigration Officers of the Silk Route Departure Terminal at the Bandaranaike International Airport have withdrawn from duties when Basil arrived to leave the country.
The sources claimed that the former Minister was forced to turn back.
Basil remained for the protection of his brother, the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and coordinated the Security Forces when the protesters stormed the President’s House on Saturday (09).
Basil, who called on the Heads of his Party yesterday (11), has given extensive instructions regarding the measures to be taken in the appointment of the new President next week as well as the future measures of the Party.
It is said that discussions have been held to nominate Minister Ramesh Pathirana as the Presidential Candidate on behalf of the Party.
