Concerns are being raised about the silence of the Sri Lanka Army and Police personnel with regard to the countless incidents of violence that have been reported at fuel queues.
The group of thugs keep coming to the shed back to back and refilling fuel while the police and army turn a blind eye. Many others in the area say even though they too have been in the queue for days, they don’t get a chance because of the thugs who sell via the black market.

The government including acting president @RW_UNP brings in the military for every protest, but strange that no one thought it was important to actually deploy the military where it matters – to control the fuel thug mafia at the Mount Lavinia LIOC.#LKA #SriLanka #FuelCrisisLK

Sri Lanka’s fuel sector is the worst hit by the forex shortages triggered by the unprecedented economic crisis.
The situation created a thriving black market where people paid to secure a place in the queue and fuel was sold four times the legal retail price.
