Zaleeha Fathoum Issadeen, a Sri Lankan female squash player, alleges that she has been deprived of the opportunity to represent the country at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Zaleeha claimed that her name had been cut off by the then Minister of Sports, Namal Rajapaksa, and the Director General.
After being the National Champion for 3 years straight till to date, the minister incharge of sports was Narmal Rajapaksha, him, the DG and the Sri Lanka Squash Federation without my permission unfairly cut my name out of the commonwealth games 2022.

As I mentioned team selections followed a due process. As a former sportsman I personally believe that no minister is competent to make a technical selection related to any sport & that shud never be the case! As for the DG it’s a career posting not appointed by the Minister.

However, Rajapaksa responded that he had not interfered in the matter and that all selections were done by the National Selection Committee and finalised by the National Sports Council.
Zaleeha has won multiple awards and recognition for her talent.
