Fourteen Sri Lankans have been interrogated in Chennai for working for the revival of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) Organisation.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted surprise checks at a house in Thaiyur near Kelambakkam in a case related to seizure of 60 mobile phones and 50 SIM cards from a gang two weeks ago in Trichy.
The NIA team had on July 20 raided a special camp housing foreign nationals near the Trichy Central Jail. The team had interrogated 14 Sri Lankans for their suspected links with offenders involved in smuggling drugs and arms.
During the checks, the NIA Team stumbled upon 60 mobile phones and 50 SIM cards, along with a laptop.
Inquiries revealed that at least 14 inmates of the camp were in touch with smugglers from Pakistan. These inmates were allegedly operating in India and Sri Lanka, and were working for the revival of LTTE, NIA said.
