In response to the Sri Lankan Government’s move to suspend the visit of a Chinese ship to Hambantota Port, Chinese social media platform TikTok has barred a promotional campaign by the Sri Lankan Embassy on Douyin – the TikTok application for China – media reports said citing sources.
Additionally, many social media sites in China are swarmed with negative comments on Sri Lanka. It is also learned that some Chinese supermarkets have delayed the purchase of Sri Lankan goods.
The Sri Lankan Authorities organised this campaign to be launched on Friday on TikTok. However, the Sri Lankan Mission has been informed that it cannot be implemented.
